Fungi and your skin

A common problem that affects us in greater or lesser extent all is the fungi in the skin. Our skin is vulnerable to them, and therefore we must take precautions and know a little more the nature of the fungi.

The fungi of the skin grow best in areas warm, moist and dark. It is therefore in humans, the fungi that grow in the skin, especially in the folds (for example, in the chest, groin and armpits), or in the mucous membranes (for example, the mouth and genitals).

The most common infections are candidiasis (fungal infection in the mouth) and the onychomycosis (fungal infection in the nails). Some infections by dermatophytes common include the athlete’s foot and ringworm.

The symptoms of the fungal infection vary depending on the type of infection this, but may include rash and itching). Fungal infections can occur when the immune system is weakened, stress or certain medications. The infections by dermatophytes can spread due to contact with humans, animals infected or contaminated objects.

The fungal infections of the skin are diagnosed by the physical examination, the skin scrapings and review of the skin samples under a microscope, and crops of fungi. At times is carried out a biopsy of the affected area. Read the rest of this entry »
