Fungi and your skin
A common problem that affects us in greater or lesser extent all is the fungi in the skin. Our skin is vulnerable to them, and therefore we must take precautions and know a little more the nature of the fungi.
The fungi of the skin grow best in areas warm, moist and dark. It is therefore in humans, the fungi that grow in the skin, especially in the folds (for example, in the chest, groin and armpits), or in the mucous membranes (for example, the mouth and genitals).
The most common infections are candidiasis (fungal infection in the mouth) and the onychomycosis (fungal infection in the nails). Some infections by dermatophytes common include the athlete’s foot and ringworm.
The symptoms of the fungal infection vary depending on the type of infection this, but may include rash and itching). Fungal infections can occur when the immune system is weakened, stress or certain medications. The infections by dermatophytes can spread due to contact with humans, animals infected or contaminated objects.
The fungal infections of the skin are diagnosed by the physical examination, the skin scrapings and review of the skin samples under a microscope, and crops of fungi. At times is carried out a biopsy of the affected area.
The treatment for the fungi involves the application of antibacterial creams, as well as oral medications. Many of the antifungal creams of topical use are available as medications without a prescription. However, the oral medications are only available under the statute of limitations of the doctor, due to their side effects. For example, can cause headaches, nausea, and rarely, damage to the temporary liver.
The consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited during the oral therapy against fungi, because it can increase the damage to the liver and interfere with the effectiveness of the medication.
The fungal infections of the skin usually can prevent maintaining proper hygiene. It is important to maintain the skin clean and dry, use clean clothes every day and avoid the use of personal items of other people (for example, towels and toiletries).
